Introduction to Dramaturgy
(New play development in Canada and the Art of the Dramaturge)
Fall Term 2013
Rotunda Theatre Theological Hall
Drama 220 has been devised to provide an opportunity for you (the student) to develop an appreciation of new play development in Canada through the reading and discussion of contemporary Canadian plays and the understanding of the historical context from which they emerged.
In addition, the course will provide an opportunity for you to develop an appreciation of the art of the dramaturge through class discussion of dramaturgical concepts as well as an understanding and acquisition of the skills of a dramaturge by participating in class exercises of various techniques.
As well, there will be opportunities for you to develop skills in various approaches to writing for the theatre through weekly critical responses, a production analysis as well as the creation of a major ‘casebook’.
